Just received a very kind response straight back from my MP, Richard Fuller. He is following up today. Very impressed by his speed of response and that he was prepared to take action at such short notice. Feeling a little better about politics for once!
Its everywhere - but this is evasion, unlike our case whatsoever. As someone posted a while back - simpler tax laws, flatter rates, regimes appropriate for different working practices. More fairness across the earning spectrum is what is needed - tax bands themselves represent a fundamental...
Yes - and the point is that unlike anyone else we never got the chance to prove whether the arrangements were legitimate under existing law. So yes, very reasoned response from the BBC.
Taking it back to the masses, surely that means that everyone who uses an ISA is basically not contributing...
Quite! So is there any point at all having a tax advice industry any more? Whatever advice I take can be overridden retrospectively at a whim. What makes our case so different from all others?
I think BolshieBastard raises a point that we all dare not voice. This is not a matter independently decided according to the written law. The very fact that we never got a fair test case due to the use of legislation points to this being the case all along. That is why I think it is important...
yes - but remember all those people who would be caught should have understood exactly what the intent of parliament might have been / could have been / possibly was when the laws were written. Any professional advice these non-legals had when they embarked on courses of action having rigorously...
I don't think it will make much difference. I get the impression people like us are an itch to be scratched in the normally docile and obedient "economically independent of the state and no interest in it really, but not rich" classes. The cash cow has an itchy udder so to speak - call the vet...
Sounds a lot easier to goto Gibraltar and become resident there - oh no, we aren't allowed to do things like that, thats for special people! apologies. I really do fear though that this whole situation is becoming the defining issue of my life. The one that I will remember when I die, not the...
yes - I fear the comment doesn't really take the understanding fwd.. why did our legal team not advise us beforehand that this was not unexpected as the case needs to reach a certain level before it can realistically be expected to be given a fair hearing?
I am just concerned that even those...
Exactly - serious financial problems for 1250 people minimum, possibly 625 bankruptcies. Lots of reposessions, upheaval for children through divorce and financial difficulty. Is it really all worth this to the state - they will end up spending money to re-house and support a lot of these people...
Yes, but as discussed. People need some certainty and control in their lives. I for one am losing my grip on normality rapidly as this goes on. I also need to be able to plan some time into the future concerning my children. This is now dragging on to the extent that they will have grown up and...
Yes - and as I mentioned we need real advice and guidance from them, not a mailshot every now and then. I personally am a bit fed up with the "we lost that, but never mind, now we are going to do this. Don't worry this is perfectly normal" approach - where and when does it actually matter what...
