Hi all, my name is Emily.
I've been contracting both in London and Melbourne for the last 12 years.
My background is in identifying and implementing process and system improvements and managing change. I started out as a management consultant with a small firm, then moved into contracting at...
Ok, my advice was on the basis that you couldn't do the work, so ignore it. However, you said that the client was getting exasperated with you. If that's the case then take Danglekt's advice.
Good luck.
Take a deep breath mate, you're getting ahead of yourself. You need to sort out your current contract first, not start contacting other agencies. Have the conversation with the person you report to.
Who knows, if they're not the person who hired you they may not realise that there is a mismatch...
Even more reason to have a conversation now. The client will have noticed that you're not the right fit whether you raise it or not, and if they've noticed that they can get someone cheaper to do the job then your days are numbered. Better to be pro-active and upfront now than wait until they...
This is what you need to focus on, not the politics. If you haven't had an honest chat with them about the role having changed and whether you're the right fit, now's the time.
When you say it's a far cry from your skillset, I've assumed that means that you've been asked to deliver something...
It's the project manager/business sponsors problem to mitigate political roadblocks. Your job is to keep them updated on what they are.
I see from previous comments that this is your first contract? I would say stick with it, focus on trying to deliver and do your best to stay out of the...
You were paid half a day for the half day you worked / were on site, I think that's fair. I know that the circumstances were out of your control, but your contract will just state that you're paid for work, there won't be any exception clauses unless the client is unusually generous.
If they do...
I know right? I've never been asked for this level of detail before either, and neither has my husband and we've been in the banking industry over here for five years. He didn't want to submit to it either without a good reason which is why he pushed back and asked questions. The recruiter...
Thanks for the feedback, it's not normal in my experience either. It wasn't the only red flag, his first interview was with the Product Manager over the phone on behalf of the IT Project Manager who was away and they offered him the role based on that. My husband asked for a face to face...
Just amazes me the obstructions companies put in the way to find a candidate. What would be wrong with contacting a foreign university if it was the right person? My husband was so far along the process this could have been resolved within an hour if communication was better but no, they prefer...
Thanks for the feedback northerladuk. It does sound similar. Now that you mention it, they did suggest bank statements for those months but it wasn't for the reasons you gave, it was to 'check that he wasn't receiving income'. I don't know why. Based on that reason, my husband said no as it...
I work as a contractor and so does my husband. He's just gone through a month long interview and onboarding process with a Tier 1 bank only to have the offer withdrawn at the last minute.
In a nutshell, the client required that he provide a document for every month over the past five years that...
