My wife is of two distinct ethnicities. Our children are of three. Our grandchildren have taken that to four. The word miscegenation is an ugly word for a rather good thing.

It's clear from the context it's being used as a foil against racist attitudes, that is using the language the racists coined against it. I'm not convinced that it's in the same league as people of colour using the N word for example.

I'm sorry that you find it upsetting, but I have to say you are the only person who has complained about it since I've had that as my sig for several years - both here and in another lively forum. Given people's penchant for finding anything to criticise moderators, the fact that we've never received a complaint from anyone else indicates to me that it is not considered by the vast majority of people as problematic.

I am not aware of an alternative word, so for the moment, my sig will remain as it is.

I will make the other moderators aware of what I'm saying here, so we can seriously weigh the issue.
