Never stuck around long enough to have this question honestly. If you're hanging around that long, questions over why you're a contractor in the first place and not an employee.
I did get asked to leave by a client and then re-hired 3 months later when the replacement was an absolute bellend...
Is there a middleground? I'm quite confident doing everything through software like FreeAgent - but would like to have an accountant for year end / or any queries like VAT etc...
So I wouldn't mind finding a service that's like half the usual £100-150 that most charge - e.g. £600/year for year...
Absolutely shocking experience from Brookson.
I have been a customer with Intouch for 12 years, the migration to Brookson was horrible, communications were rubbish, haven't heard from my accountant in weeks despite numerous emails and last week my accounts were overdue despite me chasing them...
Sounds dire. I'm fortunate my skillset and experience seem to be in demand right now. I secured another role to tide me over to March for a Swiss company. They're saving loads of money running an English speaking team because we're way cheaper than Swiss nationals who are at least 40% more...
About to take a client paying over £1000/day.
I help build high value web-systems. Mostly these days it's lots of cloud infrastructure automation and lots of Kubernetes. Been getting more into the security side of things as well which is very lucrative if you have the experience.
Very lucky...
You buy off the shelf contracts for this sort of thing, it's relatively simple.
Liability on quality of work is pretty much non existent unless you're working in some regulated field with legislation and there is some clear cut case of malpractice.

You can tell when a contractor is spending too much money and doesn't have enough of a buffer because they start getting stressed near renewal time and start flapping when they don't have a renewal 30 days out.
God help you and your colleagues. Moving from outside to inside contracts under umbrella. Sorry to hear that.
I'd probably take up dog walking if that was ever seriously on the cards.
I don't earn enough money to get involved in the elite multi-national tax avoidance schemes, just small time avoidance for plebs like £2 a week home office and 40p a mile in petrol. :laugh
Very fortunate that the mortgages are paid off, the only question is where do I want to put roots down and...
It's a great suggestion. It's easy enough to juggle a bunch of consultancy gigs which I already do but these guys are specifically looking for hands on crunch time delivery and I try not to over-promise myself and work too much to a)stay sane and b)happy wife(happy life)
That being said...
I feel like a lot of people should be more worried than they are but I'm not too worried myself. I paid of my mortgage and my wife works in the NHS so she can cover the bills :rollin:
Also I feel like my skill set is fairly in demand and isn't going anywhere, do lots of cloud security assurance...
Importing skills to erode the rights and pay of national citizens is exactly what the globalist corporate capitalist neo-liberal goons intended, and it's happening everywhere.
The technology boom over the last 30 years has been a huge opportunity which has a few people unthinkably rich. Most of...
Interested in everyone's opinions on my situation....
Current contract ends in December. (bang on 2 years) Client co is on a big permy drive. (I'm helping them to find people now, several already accepted offers) Through the grapevine I hear managers are struggling to get contractors renewed...
Yes I echo above, for 15 hours, you do not want to be quoting yourself in terms of time and materials. Firstly, the two things are not in anyway comparable, and so you don't want to give them an opportunity to compare like for like against say their normal hourly rates.
Better to quote a fixed...
