    Horrors of their first budget.

Limited company with two directors, where both are paid above the secondary threshold Q Ltd employs two paid directors. Both are paid above the Secondary Threshold (set at £8,112 a year in 2016 to 2017 for directors). The company is eligible to claim the Employment Allowance for the whole tax...

    DOOM: H5N1

My cat brought in a bird this afternoon, what was I supposed to do - leave it on the carpet, or call Porton Down? Maybe I should go and wash my hands.

Clearsky Accounting - Are they sinking? Complete Chaos

Another vote for Maslins+Freeagent, I left Nixon Williams after a dozen years with them (6 years too long, the first 6 were "ok"). Maslins are night and day better.

DIY Pensions for a Limited Company?

I don’t know if any funds, or indeed wealth managers, offer this type of fee structure. If they said “our only fees are 25% of any growth”, would you switch?

    CUK Book Club: Currently reading...

Currently reading “In search of Schrödinger’s cat” by John Gribbin. It does require a little bit of focus and effort, but it’s straightforward, lucid and very interesting. Turns out the atomic model that most of us were taught in school (like a miniature solar system) is total tulip. Next up...

Dip in Level of Service from Nixon Williams

Looking on the bright side, this means double-pay for May. Still waiting BTW....

Dip in Level of Service from Nixon Williams

Hmm... no NW payroll for April yet... not yet a crisis by any means, but it appears to be a small part of a bigger picture. Payroll usually arrives around 21st/22nd of the month from NW.

Poll: PSC contractors - Has your contract been deemed inside or outside Ir35?

Outside (phew... ) Major central gov't dept. Took a gamble continuing in role, now assessed outside by QDOS and subsequently confirmed by PSB.

    £550/day vs £70k

It would take a 2-year bench stint, plus electrodes on the Jacobs, to ever make me go permie.

    Not happy with Nixon Williams

The words "Shot down in flames" spring to mind.... it does sound like NW did not deserve the OP's complaint. I've been with NW for several years and I'm mostly happy with them most of the time. There have been a few mistakes made, which makes me a little paranoid about double-checking...

    £2k flat rate vat rule

No, that can't be right. The FRS "profit" is based on your sales, not on your costs. Your "normal" liability to HMRC would be £7,250 - I would think in this case it will be £7,250-£333 = £6,917 You could think of the £333 as "extra" FRS "profit" - but it isn't since your co has already paid...
