          I cannot believe I missed the "grid" -> "grind" opportunity.

          Also, I was reasonably confident "everyone was" is correct.

          I have resorted to using my wife's grammar library to check where I have been assured that one should always use a singular verb with an indefinite pronoun ("everyone" is a universal primary indefinite pronoun).
