So do you think we should buy right now or not?

I would buy now, regardless of what you think the market may or may not do in the future.

But I regard renting as dead money, and have owned my own place since I left home. Last rental was my university accommodation in 1998.

As a long term prospect, I think it's got to be a winner - if you can afford it, buy a family home now so that whatever happens you aren't going to want to move in the short term.

Last move we did (before children) we moved into a five bedroom house, ready for the family. I don't want to move (unless I win the lottery), as I love the house, and whatever happens to the market, we're there for a long time now.

Yep - we need a family home

Preferably one that's warm - no double glazing where we are now
