If Christianity were about trying to selfishly manipulate the media to strong-arm rescue forces to prioritise your loved ones rather than use their professional expertise, you'd have a point.

Turning it around, how would you feel if YOUR family members went missing next month and you were told "sorry, we spent all our budget fruitlessly looking for that other lot, since they got such a good twitter following"?

As I said, I would not. If there were meaningful things to be done then yes, but latching onto narcissistic memes is not meaningful. It brings to mind that saying about prayer by non-believers... "How to do nothing and still think you're helping". Snapping a silly photo with apiece of paper lets people assuage themselves of low-level guilt.
