Well in that case I hope your BBQ is a complete and unmitigated disaster, all your food gets burnt to a cinder and none of your guests ever speaks to you again. And I hope all your hair gets singed off in the process too. So there.
Hah the laugh is on you, I have no hair and no friends and the food from the dumpster always taste awful anyway.
Anyhow, none of your replies have addressed the real issue. I paid for a first class ticket and had to sit in 2nd class because 1st was full and I'm not getting a refund.
I think that's outrageous.
Why didn't you wait for the next stop when some seats would become available, probably in about 10 minutes?

I agree with you. You ought to get at refund of the difference between cattle and the 1st class fare.
There is, however, a very small possibility that the 1st class fare is actually cheaper than the standard one. Rare, but it happens. In which case I'm sure you'll be happy to remit the additional monies to your local rail company

Quality insult!!
You could try writing to SWT. With your eloquent silver tongue you might persuade them that a refund is in order.
I solve this problem by buying my first class ticket (upgrade) once I'm actually on the train, comfortably seated, complimentary coffee in hand. It seems much cheaper than I remember the last time I bought a 1st class ticket at the station (which was several years ago).

Hmmm... I'm new to the SWT network so not sure how it works but on FGW your 1st upgrade costs the difference between your 2nd class ticket that you have in your hand and the most expensive, hyper-inflated 1st class ticket available (i.e. more than the cost of the 1st class ticket you'd have bought at the station).
UNLESS it's the weekend where they do a 1st upgrade for £15 each way.
And you know what he said? Tough titties, or words to that effect. I was expecting that at least he would give me a signed chitty enabling me to reclaim the cost of the difference between 1st class and 2nd class.
The Virgin train I used to catch was so used to it between Stafford and Birmingham, that the train manager used to walk through with a load of complaints forms handy. Full refund every time, which meant that I got most of that contract's travel for nothing.

I miss the days when there was a bit of paper in the seat to show it was reserved. At least that prevented them saying "the computer glitched so we have no reservations showing, just sit where you can"
