I've got this mate see, with a gig that's supposed to be 3/4 of the time in Cambridge and the other 1/4 in Jersey. Uncanny I know, but go with it.
Since starting the new year, he's knocked off all the jobs he had to do, and sent a big email to the mob in Jersey asking what's next, and making some suggestions, outlining current questions etc. Professional stuff.

So they come back with this really wibbly wobbly airy fairy arty farty wifty wafty mamby pamby nebulous pile of tulipe. Not even a task, of if it was it would be one for a theological faculty of a uni somewhere. So my mate goes back and points out to them that to create a one size fits all generic everything to all men business process really isn't a task, more like a pipe dream.

So they listen, promise to ring this geezer on Monday. Nuffink. So he puts in a chase on Tuesday. Nuffink. So he puts in his weekly timesheet as per. Nuffink. Then this morning he gets an email saying just keep doing what you're doing

All the while his life is on hold as they tell him they will sort this out, and he should be prepared to board a plan to Jersey at a moments notice. He is now cancelling long planned weekend activities as he just doesn't know if he is going to be in Jersey.

He said to me it felt like since the start of this gig that it was on life support. No planning, no direction just drift. Now they stopped the timesheets coming it feels like it's slipping away rather than being brought to a head and dealt with professionally.

I feel sorry for him, holed up in his little office at home somewhere in deepest south Bedfordshire, not knowing, chasing pathetically expecting this mob to actually get their act together.

So its a typical suity gig.

Tell him to ask WWSD and when he's stopped crying in the corner suggest he keeps his head down while searching rapidly for another contract.

Yep. I have passed this on to him. He is very grateful for the advice.

I stopped believing the story when I read "I've got this mate! :igmc:

I find its wiser to ignore the implausible bits but read the rest of the story. Remember you need to think WWSD so that when you are next in a similar crisis you can instantly respond in the best, wisest most appropriate way by doing the exact opposite...

OK that fact that I have actually got a friend might be stretching things too far, but the rest of the post is gospel. :happy

OK, so client is slow to sort tulip out. Client eventually sorts themselves out and wants him in jersey. Say no I have plans that weekend. Hard luck....

Certainly wouldnt be putting things on hold for client. If they give fair notice then fair does, if they fanny about and want things done last minute its tough titty if Im not available.

He was expressly told to remain on stand by. This is where the relationship is starting to fall down. The absence of signed timesheets is another thing, I'm happy for him he is on weekly invoicing so the damage is limited.

AFAIK he is updating jobswerve monster and linked in. He's a talented chap so will presumably be in a gig sooner rather than later. Fingers crossed for him, poor soul.
