Margherita + Peroni.

Well said, Franco. Anything else just will not do. All these excess toppings are just bastardised versions of the real thing.

All Italian food should be accompanied by Italian red wine. A good Chianti classico. I like the full bodied stuff but dont tell the world or everyone will want it. Barollo, Barbaresco and Barbera D'Asti.

Follow this up wit a good espresso and a grappa.
If you have Tiramisu as a sweet then try a dollop of the mascarpone as cream in your espresso.

Mr LB - after our last brief encounter on alimento italiano, I agree that the best pizzas are home made Italian pizza base (using strong organic Italian 00 flour), homemade passata made by boiling and condensing farm organic rich red tomatoes, olive oil and salt down to a rich red condensate, and then some mozzarella, pepper (and a dash of ricotta if you're feeling extravagant).

Black olives, anchovies and mushrooms with a suitably chilled bottle of Orvieto Classico.

I've just realised how hungry I am. Blast!

:(

For our permie readers, a lower cost alternative is tomato ketchup on toast washed down with a swig of value lemonade.
