The big problem was for me that if I had a pint, another 5 or 6 would follow. I could stop sooner, but just didn't want to.

Don't know why, but recently I find I can nip into a pub, have one and be perfectly happy with it.

    Weird.
Knock first as I might be balancing my chakras.

Just to confirm, when you checked the 'passed out and cannot remember the next morning' it may have been the Rhyponol that Brillo used as opposed to the one gin and tonic you had.

Shocked to get an 8 until 4 added by partners concern...but given that is pot calling kettle not sure it counts.

            Must try harder

My problem - if you can call it that - is that I like drinking alone, by which I mean watching TV after the wife goes to bed and drinking red wine or whisky with a bowl of cheese savouries.
You can so easy get through 1/2 bottle of wine or several large spirits. That's fine if it's a couple of nights a week but unlike meeting friends at the pub, when you drink alone you can do so every night and then you realise you're drinking a lot even though you are never actually drunk, which isn't great for one's figure.

1/2 a bottle? Bloody lightweight. My glass takes 1/2 a bottle.

It must be a very small glass if your miniatures only half fill it.
