The iPad looks like a pretty big refresh though. The CPU/GPU increase is substantial to say the least and considering how slick the current model is, I am really interested to see the new one in the flesh... dropping the weight by a third and making it that thin is pretty impressive.

However, this isn't worth an event. What else have they announced?

More incremental updates to existing products. Why even have a big event, talk about underwhelming.

That's what I thought too, but incrementally, the iPad Air's GPU is 72x faster than the original iPad which is not that old. It was all incremental, but I'd say that's a good progress.

Likewise retina iPad mini is exactly what people wanted, likewise with the Macbook Pro Haswell refresh.
The new retina 13" MBP is relatively cheap for the power and features that it packs.
So nothing revolutionary, but a good update.

Oh FFS - incremental is Intel's 10-15% improvement over a "generation", now that's incremental - Apple is delivering real performance improvements not seen in Personal Computing scene for a decade.

Google have their event tomorrow, which is looking to be even more underwhelming. An "insider" says that there will be no hardware revealed, which means it's an event to show off the new look of Google Play.

It's easier to give away an OS if the hardware has such high margins

They still have to make money somewhere, and loads of it

Idiots. Apple hardware has always been expensive, OSX has always had a separate price tag before. Moving the OS to be free in-line with iOS makes sense, but it's nice to see.
