        Got a new contract working behind the counter in a cafe?
        Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

          Can I conclude that you disapprove of the Americanisation of the English language? If so then I agree. Last time I visited family in the UK, I was disturbed to see signs in public houses pointing to 'restrooms'. Having visited the US, I realised that these were not rooms for the purpose of sleeping or lying down, but why is it necessary to use Americanisms when 'ladies' and 'gents' would be so much clearer?

          Other things that annoy me;
          - using the word 'like' in the wrong parts of phrases or sentences, e.g. ' I'm like so-o-o not impressed'
          - likewise the silly use of the word 'not' and the exaggerated 's-o-o-o-o'
          - corporatespeak in general
          And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014

            My pet hate is when shop-assistants try and sound polite by adding "at all" to the end of every sentence.

            "Can I help at all?"

            "Do you need anything else at all?"

              Yes, you are correct in your assertion.

              Indeed, if one wishes to be correct then the request should be in the conditional so, for example, I would always phrase my requests "please could I have..."

              One certainly wouldn't use "Can I get.." at my golf club. In fact any prospective members who even hint that they indulge in such grammatical monstrosities are roundly black balled at the earliest opportunity.
