Nexus 5 should be announced in the next few weeks. Going to see how that looks and then move to SIMO only deal with my mobi provider I reckon. Will save a few hundred quid per year after the first year.

Stopped using contract a few years ago. An utter rip-off when the service does not exist. Was with vodafone business. Awful service. Yet another £50+ invoice on the doormat like clockwork every month.

Using the finger print to open your phone is well cool. Unlike other users with their larger screens I've seen on the u-bahn you're not holding the phone with both hands to smear a grubby finger across the screen. No sir. The responsiveness is quite awesome also.

Those phones are going to sell like hot cakes.

Wow a fingerprint scanner. That's really radical. That'll be just like the Motorola Atrix I bought almost 3 years ago that had a fingerprint scanner. I can see how Apple can be considered as leading edge by doing something that others did only a few years ago. Does it do other leading edge stuff like play music and surf the net? Next you'll be telling me that you can actually speak to people on it!

I'm already on a SIMO deal and save a shedload (even with buying an iPhone).

Do any of these top phones have any features worth are really worth having?

I do not watch films on my phone or really listen to music much. I listen to audio books through headphones but that is it, my current phone is not particularly slow so I feel no real need for a faster one.

I thought you were talking pre-2009.

My iPhone 4 does all of those things and I use it as my portable radio (on speaker) all of the time.

So no, there's absolutely no need to get rid of your 'old' iPhone 4.

And I bloody well refuse to dump my trusty 'old' iPad 1 as it's perfect for my use.

So they'll just have to leave me behind on OS 5.1.1 - I waved happliy as the OS 6 train went past and I don't miss it.

I have an ipod classic in the draw at work. I don't use it because the click wheel gave out and becuase my S4 does all the stuff it used to and more besides. It doesn't have a fingerprint scanner, but it does have a proper screen.

Yes it is leading edge.

Why is it those other technologies did not spring up everywhere beforehand? Because they were unreliable. That's where this manufacturer steps in, they produce quality & reliability. These two words are something nearly every UK manufacturer has forgotten. Short-term thinking, cash driven, quickly sinking.

Actually for what its worth the fingerprint scanner lasted the lifespan of the handset. My point is yet again Apple are doing something another company did and passing it off as revolutionary. Its not. Its been done before. As for build quality - how many iphones do you see with smashed screens? The 3 was notorious for its screen breaking and the 4 is little better. But they do everything better than everybody else. Look at the dodgy ariel on the 4, the non functioning maps and their latest OS 'upgrade'

Then add to the fact that tehy still sell the 4s for £379, a phone that came out over 2 years ago and yet they still charge a premium price for it....and Muppets still pay it!

I would say no. I went from 3G to 5 but I don't use it for anything more that I did before AFAIK. Sure, the camera is better and it's a bit slicker to use.


Edit: Full disclosure, I also have a PAYG S3 mini that I use to whack local sim cards in when traveling. That too does more than I need.
