How do you sell them if you apply direct through the Gov website? They give you the option or do you have to transfer them to a broker? I did see an article that going direct means it would cost you more to off load them?'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!! Comment

I assume you will have to transfer them to a broker, there are no hard copy share certificates anymoreOriginally posted by northernladuk View PostHow do you sell them if you apply direct through the Gov website? My wife is ordering hers today, besides I don't want her to know how much I'm willing to risk.Originally posted by FiveTimes View PostCan't you order some more in your wifes name ? Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. Only issue here is going to be getting enough shares, I am in for 10k and expecting 1k worth, which is hardly worth bothering.
In the old days my dad would have had applications in from every family member (including kids) but that won't be happening.Comment

I believe they are held with Equiniti. They administer lot's of employee share schemes and such. You'll be able to sell them whenever you like online, but Equiniti charge £25 for the privilidge (or they did when I held some BP shares in an employee account with them a while back). I think current share dealing accounts are around the £10 mark these days...Originally posted by northernladuk View PostHow do you sell them if you apply direct through the Gov website? That's the problem - could do for hubby and kids, but I don't really want to commit more than 5K, so without knowing how much we're going to get it's tricky. It's like the Olympic tickets all over again....Originally posted by lukemg View PostOnly issue here is going to be getting enough shares, I am in for 10k and expecting 1k worth, which is hardly worth bothering.

Those who ask for £750 are more likely to get a full allocation than those plumping for larger stakesOriginally posted by mudskipper View PostThat's the problem - could do for hubby and kids, but I don't really want to commit more than 5K, so without knowing how much we're going to get it's tricky. If you applied direct I imagine you will get 100% or 0% of what you applied for. If you applied through a broker, and the broker put in one order for 100,000 shares and only got back 20,000 I think they are obliged to allocate the same % to everybody (so 20% of what you asked for) if they are GIPS complaint. If they aren't GIPS compliant, they will allocate as per their Best Dealing Practice guides.Originally posted by lukemg View PostOnly issue here is going to be getting enough shares, I am in for 10k and expecting 1k worth, which is hardly worth bothering.
