    This. It's not about you, or your reference, it's all about the person that is providing the reference. If they happen to store something which says that you look good, then that's a bonus for you, but that isn't the main aim.

      The agency has confirmed that the person giving the reference is still there.

      It's calling keeping contact details up to date.

          I appreciate that a lot of them are idiots and this one is newbie going by her LinkedIn profile, but I can't see what she was possibly trying to gain by getting a reference for someone she's got no roles for.

          The only thing I thought was that she was trying to use it as a foot in the door with previous clients but I asked client that and he said no it was just a reference request. She called him also it want just a random email.

          I have no idea what you mean by automation either I'm afraid.

                She's just building rapport along the lines of "we both recognise good people and as you can see, I will have validated anyone I put forward to you" IMO

                  Anyway I had an email back from her saying she didn't like tone of my email and she was doing her job and she'd ccd her manager in she said she didn't want to go into detail in the email but would call tomorrow.

                  She's been told that the client knows she was fishing and is suitably annoyed so has burnt and potential bridges there.

                  It seems I've rattled her cage which is my good deed of the day done so I'm off out into the garden
