Agree strongly with your entire post above(not just my snip). But a couple of observations. Firstly cyclists are generally more selfish as people are more selfish. Secondly pedestrians also have a duty of care. Several times people (often on mobiles) just walk in front of my bike. Not always past stationary traffic (I always slow down in case pedestrians dont look).
The worst case a young girl (8?) ran round the front of a bus while I was overtaking. I would have run her down but a motorcyclist going the other way was braking hard (he was about to run her down too) and I saw his reaction. She just missed us both totally oblivious.
Yes Brillopad, you're right, some pedestrians are rather oblivious as to what is around them. These pedestrians also annoy other pedestrains. I'm constantly held up due to being stuck behind a 'Texter'. When I text in the street I usally get out the way and stand against a wall. I would never be in such a rush to send or read a received text while crossing the road.

It even happens in the office. 5 minutes ago someone was walking down middle of corridor (exactly wide enough for 2 people of 1 Diver) and walked within inches of me even though I had stopped.
