I'm going to try one out tonight, I think its called Mobile2Go or something like that. Syncs over USB and WiFi and found another one that syncs just over Wifi. With most handsets they come with some software which allows you to do some kind of syncing and backup but mine didn't. The new Samsung Galaxy Nexus (with Ice Cream Sandwich) doesn't come with any fancy apps or widgets to clog up your system (bit like buying a new Windows PC) but is very nice to use, different to older releases of Android and blindingly fast.
“Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.”
Any good free android apps/widgets? I'm only doing free at the moment, but I suppose really good paid-for ones might be of interest too.
GPS test - shows satellites being locked on
Wifi analyser - nice graphs
Skype
Winamp
Google Earth, and Sky. Amazing to turn you device to the heavens and see the stars or planets shwon on-screen, runs off-line too
Osmand, Locus Free, MapDroyd - All for off-line mapping use, pros and cons to each. Google Maps off-line is still in the Labs stage and their cached maps disappear or don't work for me after about a day, otherwise would have sufficed.
Sleep Time. So I can go to sleep watching or listening to something.
Offline dictionaries
920 & Joto text editors, & Android Web editor. Not used any of them yet.
Adobe reader
Barcode Scanner. A bit of fun. Works though.
Games for planes: Super Sudoku, Solitaire, Air Control Lite, Four in a Line Free, Angry birds, Defender.
Most of my apps work off-line as my smartphone isn't a phone.
Which browser do you use? I've got Dolphin and Firefox installed, but mainly use the installed one by default. No idea what it is.
And what about the dizzying array of social networky things available, Google Chat, Social Hub, Talk... what seems like an endless list of things I haven't explored yet... I expect the young 'uns will be in to all that soon, if not already.
Well I ditched the iPhone & got the Samsung galaxy s2, nice little handset, so a question for all you droid users out there: would you recommend any app / software for syncing outlook contacts / app management from PC to phone?
Does not have to be a freebee
Best thing about the ‘droid so far: the little green alien smileys in texts
Thanks for any posts help & rep for any that make me larf
Have you got all your contacts already synced with outlook?
If you have Samsung Kies set up on the PC, it syncs the contacts, calendar with Microsoft Outlook.
I have had a Samsung Galaxy for 16 months and for past month or so it has started to just turn off when I use any app. Its okay if I use it to make calls and recieve calls. But any app usage causes it to shut down. This seems like a known issue with Samsung phones ( google screen of death ).
I am going to try a Nokia Lumia next, at least Nokia phones go on forever without the need to throw away after a year.

That may be the case for "feature" phones, smart phones I imagine they are just as bad at degrading (especially the battery life) as other manufactures.
