The number of people out of work in the UK has reached its highest rate since July 2003, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
The number of unemployed people rose by 30,000 to 1.56 million between December and February, the ONS said.

That put the jobless rate at 5.1%, ahead of analysts' expectations.

The figures also showed that the number out of work and claiming benefits rose by 12,600 in March to 937,600, putting that rate at 3% of the workforce.

The latest claimant count comes after February's rise of 14,600 - the biggest monthly increase since the end of 1992.

It means jobless claims have now risen for 13 of the last 14 months.

Analysts Philip Shaw of Investec said: "The biggest surprise is the size of the increase in the claimant count, which is providing more convincing evidence that the labour market is continuing to loosen.

I was talking to a manager at one of the large water companies yesterday (nothing to do with IT) they are recruiting "back to work" (presumably from the dole) people to do fairly basic jobs and paying over £18k per year. In their training they have to teach these people the importance of time keeping and other basic professional "courtesy" types of behaviour that most of us take for granted (well we agents do ). Not only that but a lot of these people who have kids to support are simply not interested in the jobs because of the impact it will have on their benefits. So what is happening is that we as a society have made a decision to pay people not to work and fill the jobs that urgently need doing with immigrants (who presumably also have kids/families to support). So why are our people "too good" for work and immigrants are not?

By keeping people off work and condemning them to a life of poverty (of ambition and aspirations) they of course not only have control of so many people they are also able to pretend that they are somehow "helping/looking after" the poor. This in turn gives them some sort of moral integrity behind their policies, and this is also why so many middle class guilt ridden twits vote labour or liberal; they think that by voting for the left they themselves have some morality. The truth is that by voting for a system that impoverishes so many people they dont actually give a tulip about the poor, they simply want the moral high ground at their dinner party.

By having the moral highground they can undermine the rich as being selfish and uncaring when actually it is their policies that cause the damage to society.

In the meantime it will be the Poles (as opposed to the "Proles" )and the Czechs, unencumbered by the evils of welfare who will move onwards and upwards in the jobs and business markets.

There was I, standing on the balcony at "Mere Golf & Country Club", G&T in hand(paw) gazing thoughtfully at the sunset and I uttered these memorable words... "Peter (For it was he), we really must do something about the poor."
