In that case, you've not received an infraction for being racist, but rather have received an infraction for being careless - as detailed in the infraction email. I find it hard to see how "I can just about stomach Polish builders coming over here but this is taking it to another level" could be construed in any other way, especially in conjunction with the comment about using "our" safety net and infrastructure, and wondering who's going to pick up the tab.Originally posted by singhr View PostBlimey - I received an infraction notice from someone called Not All There for this post. Apologies if any misconstrued my post as racist. It was not meant to be and I consider it not, but can see how others might see it otherwise.

How very New Labour - silence any comment or alternative view with a charge of Racism... singhr's comment was justified on a level of non EU migration, and yours was an over-reaction possibly born of sensitivity to your choice of partner.Originally posted by NotAllThere View PostIn that case, you've not received an infraction for being racist, but rather have received an infraction for being careless - as detailed in the infraction email. Fair point 'Not All There'. I will be more careful when rattling off my latest rant in between working. I have nothing against Poles, Vietnamese or any race as a whole, I consider no race better than any other and I am not anti-asian. I was trying and failing to make a point about unsustanable economics and getting in a dig about the red tape that our builders are tied up with and that a non-English speaking person could not hope to comprehend. I am glad your brother in law has made a success of his life here. Thanks for the link to the news of the arrests in relation to the hit and run.Originally posted by NotAllThere View PostIn that case, you've not received an infraction for being racist, but rather have received an infraction for being careless - as detailed in the infraction email. At least I recognise the differences in the usage of "then" and "than". I bet you say "could of" too, eh?Originally posted by NotAllThere View PostNo, but you obviously include yourself. And quite rightly too, given your level of erudition.Comment

I took OP's post to be a rant about immigration - 'them' coming here taking 'our' jobs. Poorly worded, but reflects the concerns that many have about the levels of immigration. (See all the ICT threads)
However, without a link to back the story up, the claims that the Vietnamese builder (a twenty year old woman???) a) could not speak English and b) that (s)he has wife and kids draining our resources come across as racist.
Anyone who is here legally has a right to healthcare, education and all the other services that we enjoy.
I think a carefully worded post challenging an immigration policy that allows non EU migrants to take jobs that could be filled locally is fair enough. I think that was the intention of OP's post, but unfortunately it didn't come across like that.Comment

Accusing me of New Labour tactics? I was at university with Tony's apparatchiks. I abhored them then, and abhored them now.

There are three sides to this triangle, the minimum wage, the amount of immigration and the amount of jobs that are open to unskilled immigrants.
With the wage 'allegedly' fixed, the level of jobs pretty much static with our economy the triangle can no longer be completed with immigration at the level it is at. Really the triangle was bust about 5 years ago.
Anyone with half a brain could see the troubles that were brewing up but sadly we had new Labour in charge with a bunch of donuts high on easy credit voting them in for years.Comment
