I only ever bought one sofa from IKEA in the UK so don't have vast amount of experience.Originally posted by AtW View PostIt's too late for it.
My expectations of sofa buying in the UK have been severly deflated.
Out here in the colonies, my new sofa arrived last week. I had to wait five weeks for it but the retailer provided a loan sofa in the meantime at no cost, so that I had something to sit on.Comment

Ikea
Provide furniture for poor and / or stupid people - or - landlords who furnish houses every couple of years for students.
They are quite good at style and very good at other things - plastic boxes and the like.
Here in Bristol they is a wood supplier not very far from the ugly blue building (Ikea) that does a great trade in already measured, cut and sanded replacement bed parts for people who have bought Ikea beds and then found that the wooden battens snap.
DFS & Harveys
For stupid people who like to think that they are buying something better than Ikea but do not have the cash to pay for the product and so use the interest free credit offer.
Advice
If you do not have very much cash then visit the second hand shops or use Ebay to buy something locally that is made well. i.e. search for "Parker Knoll" if that is your thing. These items will be second hand but well made.
If you want to buy first hand then go to John Lewis and have delivered in a few days to a week or go somewhere else locally that provides decent furniture.
If you do spend £1000 on a sofa from DFS you really would have been better visiting John Lewis.
The range would be less but the quality of the product would be much better along with the service and delivery options.Comment

You could use John Lewis. They tend to source better quality schmutter. Or go and have one made. There's a place near me which will design and make any sofa you want.

The first house we got it took 16 weeks for the sofas to arrive, we had a bean bag and an Ikea reclining chair to sit on.
Would not touch Ikea sofas, 2 farts after a curry and the thing would break. I have a nice Ikea desk though.Comment

I'm sure he can make his own sofa crusty enough without having to buy a second hand one!
