I was a regular poster in a Usenet group from about 1998. We all used to have a right go at each other over various topics on discussion. Posters used to give it as good as they got it from others.
For some reason an idea was floated about a meetup which was attented by pretty much all the major posters, about 25 of us met and talked as if we knew each other for decades.
The unfortunate outcome was that the usenet group was never the same after that. Posters started to treat others with respect and so the lively discussions became dull and boring and eventually it went dead within a year of the meet up.
