Does anybody here know whether on the late 1800s , names changes would have been recorded anywhere in England,
I am trying to track down an ancestor and I have a suspicion they changed their name.

I have never heard of any register of name changes being kept.Random question

Thank you people,
I suspect the change was something Jewish or Gypsy(Maybe East European Origin) to a very common English surname.
