thanks expat, the way we are thinking is this. We have the cash spare, getting fck-all squared in interest, we could holiday there and maybe let it out a bit, then if the novelty doesn't wera off, retire there.
If the novelty does wear off, flog it for a profit. The other cabins are in the process of being flogged off, 400m apart - so it's not exactly a camp.

That's a good idea, but my OH has a very severe reaction to midgie bites We're trying to find the stuff we like (which is Wester Ross upwards) without midgies. Not easy.

It was Arran which is the biggest tourist Island, they have cash machines in the main village now but HBOS run the mobile bank.

It was not so bad in the summer when there are loads of tourists but in the winter many places will just shut down and open places cut their stock.

It is very much a different story going somewhere for a week or two each year and actually running a house or living there. Still, I would say go for it.
