Students! F**k me, they must be getting hard up. I seem to recall that you could get blasted on a bottle of Thunderbird red for less than 2 quid back in the day . The there was Gold Label barley wine, Clan Dew etc etc.....

I was always a Thunderbird blue girl myself - bit like like port -hic!

Does anyone on here brew their own? I have done for years. I do tend to stockpile. Been benched for ages, and just sitting here with a nice fine pint of FU-Alaistair-Darling, with a white head on it. Just wondered is all.

I've been thinking about it. Also, you can make your own wine with practically anything. Where's a good place to buy all the kit?

(Mind you, there are risks - I know someone who'd just finished decorating his kitchen at vast expense, and rashly left a crate of self-brewed blackcurrent wine out. In a sudden heatwave the bottles exploded all over the room )

That's either because they bottled before fermentation was complete and did not stabilise it before bottling, or because they got an infection in the wine prior to bottling (because they did not sanitise properly). Unless they were trying to make a sparkling wine, in which case they over-did it with the priming sugar.

Bottle bombs are most usually experienced by beer makers that over-prime their bottles (as the beer is bottled with the yeast still alive).
