Security Clearance

Is that SC or BC?
My SC took several months when I was a permie, I was told it was because my In laws are Irish - not sure if that's the real reason.
My BC was done last Feb and took about a week.
- Both were for the MODI'm sorry, but I'll make no apologies for this

6 months for my MOD SC clearance (quit the job a few months later). 3 months (or thereabouts) for the MET SC clearance. The MOD one took longer because they wanted to do a medical check.Originally posted by Ruprect View PostStraw poll for all those who have it - how long did it take to get cleared? My SC took 6 weeks and that was just for a renewal, make sure you photo copy the forms so you don't have to dig out all the info for next time around.Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave JohnsonComment

5 1/2 months for SC in 2007.
Half of that delay was getting the forms out of the consultancy I was contracting to, and over to the vetting agency.
I worked with someone last year who got it done in weeks, though. And someone else there (permie at consultancy) applied in January 2008 and got it in September.
Depends on who is doing it, what workload they have, and how important the project is. Also, the workload is usually prioritised so that a low priority permie gets done well before any high priority contractors.Comment

What is BC? Background checks? Wouldn't this be part of security clearance?
...so I'm going to get a load of forms through then ginger? I thought they'd just set the spooks loose on me..."Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny. "
