You will notice that Israel can sit down and negotiate when they're not being threatened with a gun / bomb. Look at the West bank, but most Jew haters / Hamas sympathisers (they're both the same really) seem to ignore that.
I know about the Balfour Declaration too. I agree that the fact that the situation could develope thus at all is a consequence (one of many miserable cases around the world) of misguided imperial policies. I don't agree about sovereign states and borders, because I have an antipathy to sovereign states and their borders. But yours is a normal point of view.

I take your point about Israel's willingness to negotiate from a position of strength.

I am not a Hamas sympathiser, in fact I believe that getting rid of Hamas is the single biggest thing that the Palestinians could do to improve their lot; and that not just because Israel is after Hamas, but because they are wrong. I rather think that many Palestinians voted for Hamas not because they agreed completely with Hamas's aims but because the alternative was Fatah, and Arafat and his crew/family had just become too corrupt by anyones's standards. That's a real shame; though it's not Israel's fault that the Palestinians can't come up with better candidates (though maybe at a deeper level, it is).

And I hope you do not mean to call me a Jew-hater, or imply it. I would be very upset if you did that.

The UN Security Council has passed a resolution urging an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, with the US alone abstaining.
Is that not the same as condoning Israel’s actions? I’m not going to take sides on this as I think any attempt to bring about peace should be welcomed and that includes UN troops in Gaza if need be.

I just can’t help but think that America’s inaction is the sort of thing that breeds contempt in the Muslim world.

Maybe that’s just what the US wants?
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

What will be interesting is the coverups and lies which will spew from both sides afterwards.

              Aye SB

Regaridng Lord Haw Haw - the irony is that he was a Yank !!!

              "Jairmany calling, Jairmany calling"

William Joyce aka Lord Haw Haw

Although a Catholic, as a teenager he informed on the IRA rebels to the British forces during the Anglo-Irish War. He was also formerly a senior member of the British Union of Fascists, and fled England when tipped off about his planned internment on 26 August 1939.

He was the main German broadcaster in English for most of the war, and became a naturalised German citizen; he is usually regarded as "Lord Haw-Haw," even though he was probably not the person to whom the term originally referred. He had a peculiar hybrid accent that was not of the conventional upper class variety.

His distinctive pronunciation of "Jairmany calling, Jairmany calling" which can be described as a "nasal drawl," may have been the result of a broken nose.

I’m starting to think they enjoy it. The Israelis all say they want peace but I don’t see mass refusals for military service. The Palestinians all say they want peace but the majority vote for Hamas.

They keep fighting wars because the majority of them enjoy killing the other lot and laughing about it, while a really sad minority dream of killing themselves.

The smart ones on both sides leave.

What has Fatah ever done for the Palestinians? Do they hate each other? I would reckon as Israeli's don't ever speak to a Palestinan (and visa-versa) that it's more ignorance and educational brainwashing that is a major culprit.

As for Israel mililtary refusal...have gun. have right to kill, why not?
