One of the reasons for this post, is that i have been talking and organising a holiday with a close friend from school for over 2 months. Talking about it most days, planning etc...

During the last 2 weeks, he has had his 30th, got ****ed up every night on booze and drugs and fallen in love with a northern lass. During this phase, i have been to his party, organised the whole thing, booked time off work etc....

Yesterday he tells me, that the whole thing is off. He cant face telling his new bird his ******* off for 2 weeks.

He kinda led me on with this, and im half and half on my reaction. Should i...

    a) disown him as a friend and tell him he shafted me big style etc..
    b) say ahh no worries mate, i understand, good luck with the new bird?

Why dont you take his new bird away instead? Kills 2 birds with 1 stone, as it were.

Tell him that if it was meant to be, she'll understand that he should be spending time with mates, and be waiting when he comes back.

Look Duder these are the sort of issues you discuss with your mates - not a bunch of weirdos and nerds (except the ladies obviously) on a contractor forum.
If you can work that one out I reckon you'll have a happy life.

PS - your mate is in love. Be happy for him and bugger off on holiday anyway.

Sounds like he's having a mid life crisis, he'll get over it. Why don't you have a chat with his new missus and see what she thinks about it? That way he's not telling her he's fecking off and she's being involved.

I have come to the conclusion that over the past 4 years, i have been living a somewhat blessed lifestyle, through sheer hard work and neglect of friends and family around me.

It seems i have developed an attitude of that i earn what i earn through sheer determination and hard work of getting contracts and putting myself out to go get the money. I tell them, that i work 12 hrs a day, travelling far a field to keep working, unlike many of my so called friends, that seem to be always skint at the end of the month, and plod along nicely in their permie jobs, live about 10mins from the office and basically have an attitude of i dont put myself out for work.

              In have in the past 4 years, been;

              travelling the world
saved up a nice lump sum in savings
bought a lovely retreat in the country
              a nice car
varied experience working for a number of big companies/projects

Anyone else experienced similar backlash from friends and family?
I have no respect for someone that voluntarily works 12 hours a day.

It is amazing actually, cause i visited all my friends in the north who i havent seen in 6 years, and they were telling me stories and memories right out of the book. I couldnt remember a damn single thing about it.
Are you sure you weren't chatting to a bunch of strangers?

Your a contractor for feks sake, go out a buy a new load of mates.

12 hours a day answering phones - not sure I'd be too proud of that one!

I'd go down his throat for this - if he can just ditch you for a new lass, then he's not a mate at all - he's a convenience buddy.

                    Ditch him.

I don't know what that means, exactly, but I'm sure it confirms what people have been saying about northern birds!
