Anyone worked for them, any horror stories/recommendations ? Made a terrible error going to work for the Caudwell group, don't want to make another.

I am comforted by the fact that nowhere I ever work will be as bad as that, gives me a useful comparison when the permies are calling their incredibly cushy offices sh1tholes.Comment

I know several people who work for Pipex. As with many companies, it depends on the specific site you're working on. Much of Pipex consists of companies that they've purchased in recent times and the professionalism/working culture varies considerably nationwide as a result.Comment

It seemed OK then, but I've since heard horror stories about working at Caudwell group companies.Work in the public sector? Read the IR35 FAQ hereComment

Thanks Chicane, that's what I am worried about, can't be doing with working in the wild west anymore, fire-fighting, need some stability like only a big mature rich corporate can afford to generate.
Milan - Coldwell sites vary but the one I was at - truly appalling office (old 'converted' warehouse) crammed in lines of small desks like battery hens, people sacked at a moments notice, leaving speeches (multiple in a 60 person team) every Friday, people being screamed at in the middle of the office, climate of fear and blame - And that was all on a good day !
So why did you go there I hear you shout ? I didn't know what it was going to be like, it was a good stepping stone job title wise and paid more money than the previous place.
Strangely - most of the people were ok and you never ever got bored because you had no idea what was going to happen each day - but you could be sure something would !Comment

Almost got a permie job at the Caudwell group about 4 years ago. I owe them lots as they made me snap out of it and put me off permiedom (hopefully) for life.
Just got to make sure I come up with a decent plan B to fund my old age when I finally get bored or incapable of contracting. The idea of having one or more cash generating websites that I can keep my eye on from anywhere, such as a nice sunny villa abroad, is my current ideal scenario. Still not sure what type of websites though, apart from the obvious porn ones"If it floats, flies, or f***s, lease it." - Evel Knievel when he wasn't jumping buses or womenComment
