    Flights at Gatwick Airport were temporarily suspended and diverted on Friday after a British Airways plane aborted its takeoff.
    A British Airways Boeing 777-200ER from London Gatwick to Vancouver aborted its takeoff due to hot brakes.

    Hot brakes means the landing gear can't be retracted which means having to fly longer at a lower altitude until they're cool enough or risk starting a fire. I suspect that wasn't an option or there was a wider issue which couldn't be resolved by that method.
