Why do you think the lifespan of an electric car is only 6 years??? There are plenty of Teslas for example, on the road that are older than that.

Do you mean the life of the battery itself rather than the car?

I thought all the fastest supercars were already hybrids or fully electric, and have been for the last few years? Richard Hammond crashed one a while ago.

There's a YouTube channel where a specialist company in the USA repairs and reconditions Tesla cars. They have seen a lot of the early Model S that are 8 or 9 years old on the original battery. Whilst it is possible for them to have catastrophic battery pack failure, costing $20K for a new unit, most have lost around 10 to 20% of capacity at that age and are perfectly usable albeit with reduce range and performance.

There are also plenty of Teslas in the scrap yards. The battery cost is about 40% of the price of the vehicle so would you buy an electric car for £10k that needs a battery costing £16k or £8k refurbished?

Manufactures only guarantee 80% of the original capacity after two to three years. After five to six years the battery needs replacing. Even if the car is not used much, the battery will deteriorate.

Saw something today that a Tesla can do 0-60 in 1s.

                    Amateurs.

AtW's Merc can do 60-0 in half that time.

Model S Plaid Edition is 1.99 seconds to 60 mph. Not too shabby for a four door saloon car.

The yet unreleased MK2 Tesla roadster, is touted to do 0-60 in 1.1 seconds.
