I remember reading that on a pound per mile basis the Heathrow Express is the most expensive train journey in the world.

When a train driver (stop/go/open/close doors) earns a basic of £50K p.a, would you expect otherwise?

It's just under an hour on the tube from King's Cross to Heathrow 1,2,3 so you'r not going to save a massive amount of time going to Paddington then taking HE.

A positive bargain compared to the £4.90 cash price for a journey from Leicester Square to Covent Garden, whose platforms are 300m apart.

From what I understand you can also get a tube driver 'lite' which is two night shifts a week for £25K p.a. That's £25K a year for a 15 hour week. Oh and the regular drivers get £50K minimum.
