8k, even if it was on sale to normal people, would be high end TV format of sorts.

LG is appropriate in this case...

Getting OLED HD is right choice at the moment - most content is at best HD, no point paying 4k premium that you won't be able to use anyway since there is still no broadcast 4k standard, but if you do then modern set with HDR is essential to future-proof it....

I'm not sure that all TVs aren't 'smart' by default these days

A decent 1080p set will still work just lovely and there will/should be some great deals if you want something from a couple of years ago, pre-smart?

3D is more or less forgotten now, the new fad is 4k HDR now - and it's a much better thing for sure...

OLED is the only think I'd consider as an upgrade as everything else is not much of a step up from the LCD TV I have already. Only problem is they don't make any in sensible sizes.

BT Sport are broadcasting in 4K.

                    (Well, multicasting technically.)
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

I've got one and it's great. However, it would be a bit much for day to day watching. Generally only use it for films.

I have a Samsung smart TV. But you'll need to get a 12 year old in to explain how to use it effectively.
