      There you go... you're working with an assumption that 0.333... is equal to 1/3. It's an assumption made when using a number system with an incorrect base for representing 1/3.

      If you want a precise representation of 1/3 you need to use a base-3 system,and then 1/3 == 0.1

      So to say that 1 == 0.999... is only valid when you make a set of assumptions. So with that being said I suppose that it makes sense to say that 0.999... == 1 because the alternative (that it's infinitely close to 1) makes no sense.

      **edit** that means i've decide I agree. I just don't like the 'proofs' given.

        No it isn't, you can prove it easily.

        Code:
        let x = 0.3...
        => 10x = 3.3...
        => 9x = 3
        => x = 3/9
        => x = 1/3
        => 1/3 = 0.3...

          1 - 0.99999999... will be an infinitely small number such as: 1 divided by infinity.

          I challenge anyone to prove that 1 divided by infinity = zero.

          No matter how small you make it you cannot destroy it, and it can always be multiplied back up again to full size.

          or we can just accept that our calculators and the decimal system isn't cut out for this tulip

            I've been using my fingers.

            Which might explain why I'm struggling to get boobies.
            Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

                    This is CUK, since when have facts mattered? If you don't agree with the evidence simply call someone sanctimonious/a leftie/a twunt.

                      Depends what you mean by 0.99999, equals, recurring and 1
