What does Immedate start mean in the world of contracting. Is next week the week after or a few months time. I find this very interesting that I'm told about position with the immediate start and yet I do not hear anything after the initial contact from the agent or client.

It's as soon as is possible for everyone to get their shizzle in order. Twice I have interviewed Tuesday/Wednesday and been on site the Monday after.

Don't let them force you though. Get your contract checked properly and don't take any short cuts because it suits them. If they have picked you then they can wait a couple of days more. It will take them much longer to drop you and get the other second option in so you have a bit of wiggle room.

QDOS will review a contract in 24 hours for £33 (I think, thereabouts anyway) and in reality I submitted it 5pm and had it back by 10am next day.

If there is anything wrong with the contract don't sign it until you are happy.

If you haven't heard anything then they are not interested. This will probably happen a lot. They are out to make money. If you are not going to make them money don't expect any niceties. No feedback is all the feedback you need. Some people get upset they can't be polite and professional but IMO the deafening silence is all the feedback you need. Keep applying for gigs until you arrive on clients site. It can go tits up while you are stood in reception.

Isn't that for a contract check? I used a free one but paid 33 just for the 24 hour turn around.

We could be talking at cross purposes, but the last IR35 contract check I got was £99 + VAT, and the 24 hour turn around is 50% extra.
Still not a huge amount given the stakes.

7 weeks ago it was £30+VAT to turn a "free" review around in 24 hours.

It could mean anything. I've had them go on about immediate starts and then you don't start till a month later.

99% of clients out there tend to arse about for days/weeks, then finally look at the CVs, get interviews sorted, then suddenly its urgent and someone has to start tomorrow. Always happens lol.

And of course dont get me started on the ones that MUST have SC, MUST start tomorrow then they cant find anyone, wont put anyone through and its still on jobserve 3 months later.

Anything from one day to never.

It's nothing to do with when the contract starts - it's just that the agent and / or client aren't interested in you any more.
