    Ever given yourself a reference?

I read a post by a contractor on another forum, who blagged about given himself references (using two mobile phones for when the ageny rang up).

Just wondered if it was common practice? do all agencies have some kind of clause that makes this practice dangerous!?!??!

ha ha ha great idea - agencys are only fishing for leads when they ask for 'references' anyway; they are hardly ever followed up. Agents speak to so many people in a day anyway its unlikely anyone would notice.

I do have to say though that if you're struggling to get anyone to give you a reference, then you're probably going to be found out pretty quickly even if you do get the role

A Indian permie I worked with created an email address for a ficticious boss at his former company. He set up a forwarding rule and had a sparte mobile number. The request for his reference came by email and he asked the HR to ring him on the mobile. He gave himself a fantastic reference.
