Security Clearance

Can my limited company request that I, as an employee of the company, have Security Clearance and therefore organise and pay for it? If so, does anyone know general costs and how one goes about this?

The answer is no you can't apply for it on your own behalf so there are no cost implications.

And, Belle, your next question is "So can I go List X?"

The answer to that is also no.

The only ways to get clearance are:
- get a gig that needs it;
- be a foreign national employee of a List X company and be brought in to do UK work then apply for contracts needing clearance and seemingly walk straight into one.

Rubbish. Clearance is associated with a gven post and is applied to the person holding that post. No post, no clearance. Simples...

Similarly, YourCo does not need you to have SC becuase it doesn't have any work to do that requires SC clearance. Also simples...

In fact, you are perfectly at liberty to apply for an SC role without clearance and the rules are framed so that you can do so without prejudice. Reality is that 99.9% of cleared roles are managed by people who don't know the rules or don't care about them and are simply looking for a way to look at fewer CVs.

Also rubbish . Clients don`t want to pay another load of money to put another candidate through it when there are plenty of candidates who already have it. They also don`t want to have to pay someone to escort people around for x weeks until the clearance comes through. Making other arrangements can also be uneconomical.
As tax payers, we can surely understand the cost aspect involved.
We must also understand taking the route with less hassle.

However I understand the other side of the argument, those who want the jobs but can`t get them. But imagine someone at McDonalds (or anywhere) reading the headlines (government pays 8000 to securty clear temporary workers when there are already unemployed security cleared workers applying for the jobs.

I get tired of hearing people moaning about not being able to get clearance. You don`t hear those who would love to work in investment banking(for example) complaining that they can`t get in because all the jobs require previous experience.

To those who want clearance, sacrifice a little yourself and apply for permie jobs that require it then jump ship after a while. That`s what some do to get into investment banking for example.

People are so selfish. I bet most of those complaining about getting SC clearance would once they had it prefer others to not be able to get it so easily -8-)

Since you appear to have missed the small hint TRY THE SEARCH FEATURE, this question has been answered many many times.

I'm sorry to shout, but I'm getting fed up typing out the basic rules on obtaining Security Clearance.

In short you require a Government Department or ListX company to sponsor (and pay for) any application to the DVA for SC or higher clearance to be done. YourCo Ltd is not ListX so can't sponsor you.

Clearance is done on the individual.

I've been SC'd four times in 12 years. How stupid is that?

I've not been allowed to apply for a role on a programme that I set up and that I designed the process for that needs managing, despite being more qualified than anyone else to do it. How stupid is that?

The rules are there to allow anyone to apply for cleared roles with very few exceptions, but are being ignored by all and sundry. How stupid is that?

HMG programmes are dying for lack of suitable staff, and others are failing becuase the same people are being recycled once they've srewed up their last role but they have clearance. How stupid is that?

The Cabinet Office are fully aware of the problems that clearance is causing but haven't done anything to enforce their own rules. How stupid is that?

People are being assessed on something they cannot control regardless of the abilitiy to do the job in question. How stupid is that?

You think it's OK once you're inside the fence to hang on to your own little fiefdom no matter how good or bad you are at your job. How stupid are you?
