    references

    Friends
I'm just in a position to secure a contract(final stages) and obviously the agency/client has asked for references.I'm moving from perm to contract and don't want to give reference of my manager and we are a small team.Just wanted to know if clients really check if the reference provided them is correct (can i give any of my friend who is not my colleage a reference) and do they do a check on how much you are earning in your present position?

    Thanks

ask them to wait until you give the go-ahead to check (ie. once you have handed in your notice)

Clients never check contractor references. Pimp want's a lead that's all. Just stall him and once you're on site forget all about it.

                Count another BULLSHYTER here.

My referees have never been contacted by an agent or client.

same here too, never had a reference checked in 10 years (actually make that 11 years as its my companies' 11th anniversary today) - only time I did get asked for a reference was in my early couple of years and being green and naive I handed them over to have them promptly harrassed for sales leads
