Never more than a few percent in renewals.
Most satisfying though was only £50/week. Boss was a miserable tw@t, told me he didn't like contractors but was stuck with them, everyone booked their holidays around him to avoid him.
6 months in, I told agency I wanted more money. He came over and said 'sorry hands are tied, no budget'. I said 'I understand, these things happen'.
Immediately phoned the agency - no rise, I am gone.
Next day he walked up to my desk and half shouted - OK YOU'VE GOT YOUR RATE RISE. Thanks very much said I and regretted I was staying...

Should have told him it had gone up again by another 50 per week.

My second ever contract was a modest £6.25/h . My third ever contract was a few days of y2k work at £15.50/h, which for a scummy student was wealth beyond my wildest dreams. So 148%, but I was getting rapidly better at the time!

Best I ever managed was an extra £100 a day (20%)...combination of client upping their daily amount and the agency dropping their cut. Took a lot of me running between the two of them. There's another thread on here talking about who you should approach at negotiation time...I say both...

(Forgot to add - it was (obviously) a contract renewal, had been on site for over 2 years with no previous increase)

On renewal, my best was 15% ...

On contract change, well, let me not mention it ;-) ... The market should dictate and NOT your current rate ... Always remember this when looking for a new contract ... You may have to lower your rate, if the market has fallen ... So, works both ways ...
