    Working for HMRC

It just feels wrong on every level, lead by example. I'd love to see the JD for that role, anybody care to share?

    Slippery agent behaviour.

Just had the gig I was chasing come through as an offer, contracts receveived today. This is one where the agency asked for me to reduce my rate as per the client request and I refused to lower my rate....so much bs going on, stand your ground people.

    Working for HMRC

Can somebody explain how a HMRC gig can be outside IR35, doesn't that contradict everything!

    Slippery agent behaviour.

On the basis this is happening a lot now. I am going to stipulate in my representation email that the rate that was agreed £xxx is the rate I am prepared to take and it is not for negotiation if I am succesful in winning the contract. I am getting sick of this, it's all the new kids on the block...

    Slippery agent behaviour.

I've had this as well, but I bet you were pi..ed off, I would be. Never EVER give agencies references, this has been going on for years. The only caveat is if hiring client requests in writing...but only on the condition after the offer comes in first. It's all BS, most of my managers were...

    Slippery agent behaviour.

Yes, I've had this 3 times this year. My last gig INSIDE IR35 wanted to cut my rate by £50 a day because of clients budget, I reluctantly agreed but the hit wasn't that much because of being inside. And I knew I would be leaving in 2 months.... More recently, had 2 offers come in Outside IR35...

The hell that is representation emails.....

This happened on my last gig. Pimp 1 asked for rep email, gave them 7 days notice blah blah. Heard nothing back, then Pimp 2 contacts me about the same role put me forward. Then client says they already have my CV. Then there was a massive argument about who was representing me. Pimp 2 got me...

    Strange request

f... that, that is classed as free consultancy. I've never been asked this, and I would decline it. I smell a rat straight off. Put that pimp on your warning list, or just ignore them. If the client was legit then they would setup a call with you and ask you these questions in the interview...

    When do you walk away?

You've been there 3 years so your clearly doing something right. If you plan to retire soon then stick it out. If you don't then maybe time to move on and refresh your skills on another gig. I've had one gig that lasted 3 year in Asia, I never felt it went against me. In fact it's made me...

CUK FREE workshop: Preparing contractors for Autumn

I'm also curious who is running this, sounds interesting but you know the saying you get nothing for free!

Anyone else asked to stay back an 1hr or per day??

There's two sides to this, but to me it sounds as if your client relationship is not good and they are playing you. They are trying to show their authority or just completely disorganised and catching up at your expense. Who in their right mind asks somebody last minute to work late without pay...

Hate my contract such a bad experience

Thanks for that. I've terminated one gig early before because it didn't work out and yes I got paid. It's just this one is a PITA client and just wondering what games they could play. I want to terminate early as I want a break before I start the new gig. I think stress leave will have to be...

Hate my contract such a bad experience

I served my notice yesterday, but also got a massive dilemma as I was offered a new contract last night. Client wants me to start next week. I also found out the pimp has been actively looking for a replacement for me as well ffs. What do you reckon? 1) Tell existing client I want to leave at...

    Leaving contract early

Your situation sounds exactly the same as mine! Read my thread "I hate my contract" as well. Serve them notice, be honest and say it's not for you. I'm in the middle of the same battle with my client but they are keeping me on. I'm rinsing my client as it was their cock up and not mine. I had...

Hate my contract such a bad experience

All good feedback, I know about the opportunity to learn new skills, but it's so dull so doesn't interest me. But what I've listed isn't half of it. Project still in design, major workshops going on (3-5 hours a day), then functional specs to write, all on the basis I have limited knowledge of...
