Expenses - mileage...again

Last year (2003-2004) I was on a 1 year contract. I claimed a lot of mileage - going from my registered company address (home) to the client site - genuine miles. HMRC are now querying my expenses for 03-04. Do I have a leg to stand on ? Am I buggered ? What kind of approach can I take ?
