Thanks fiisch that's really helpful, coming from a sector specialist with your experience. I didn't make a conscious decision to specialise in Insurance but can't complain so far!
I almost considered a perm role with an up and coming Insuretech firm but quickly came to my senses when the top...
My experience of looking for a new remote/London-hybrid (no more than 2 days in office) contract in September/October 2025. I was last in the market in autumn 2023.
My background is that of a generalist (not full IT) PM, now specialising in the insurance sector, thanks to my most recent...
Absolutely agree with what you've said, but the system is what it is and in that context the elected government (irrespective of party) does what suits its ideology, vested interests and electoral fortunes.
I would prefer a PR/ish system to FPTP any day, but again we had a referendum to move...
If you read my post properly, I adjusted for holidays and the 7.5% match. So it's still 27k Vs 33k. Not saying £160pd is a good rate for a 'Lead Test Analyst' but within those numbers I'd still much prefer a desk based remote role compared to working in a Tesco store.
As for the points you've...
£160/day inside through an umbrella is (as per Paystream's calculator) £2,478/month net which grosses up to an annual PAYE salary of £36,409 on a standard tax code with no deductions. If you adjust for 5 weeks annual leave that goes down to 33k.
Tesco store colleague pay starts at £12.02/hour...
The NHS have form for this. Last summer they had a PM role on PSR which (after being shortlisted) I was told pays £240/day inside! The recruiter that I spoke to was quite apologetic as she herself had got me the exact same kind of role in a public sector dept for more than double that day-rate...
Just got offered an extension on my contract until next Sep. For context, I'm a PM, the client is a mid-sized insurance firm and the role is (almost) fully remote. This will probably be the last extension as the two main projects I'm doing now should both be close to BAU by then.
They've been...
It was similar at my previous client where management were on overdrive trying to implement their newly minted compulsory 2 days/week hybrid policy.
It worked on those staff who were expendable. Of the staff that weren't, most of them would come in only when they wanted to, and their managers...
I’m not entirely sure but I think I remember them talking about relocating Parliament out of London quite a few times, when all that discussion was going on about about the ultra expensive repair and maintenance bills to keep the current buildings operational, and back when there was a lot of...
The UK economy is incredibly imbalanced geographically when compared to comparable developed western economies.
We have one huge economic centre in a mega-city, and the rest of it is just a few cities a fraction the size of London and a lot of (relatively) low value industries spread across a...
General update from my client (mid sized insurance firm) - brutal round of cuts happening among permies, mostly aimed at upper/middle management. The person I was reporting to was fired, the person they reported to resigned a few weeks later, everyone's looking over their shoulder. The last...
You're right, it's too far gone now. IT immigration was at just about bearable levels until the government opened the floodgates a few years ago, doling out graduate visas, carer visas, student visas and generally made it a free for all for anyone from non-EU countries. Multiple routes to make...
Exactly this. The fortunes of the 'contractor market' (however one might define the wide spectrum of ways in which companies hire temporary talent) will largely follow the general job market within a sector/industry.
And as others have mentioned, no one gives a tulipe about the specific...
Spot on.
No one will say it (for fear of being labelled racist) but over the past 7-8 years tens of thousands of experienced middle-aged IT people from the developing world have moved to the UK using the student visa route (buy a 1 year masters followed by a 2 year visa, then a work permit...
TMW (Nationwide Building Society’s BTL lending arm) is offering secured loans (further-advances/additional-borrowing) secured against rental properties at sub 4% rates on low LTV 5 year fixes.
So if you’re being quoted 13% for a secured loan, that rate will have something to do with you, the...
