Yup, me too. As to the alternatives and the attempts. Have applied for permie, contractor as Inside or Outside. Nada. Have done some film extra work, temporary work in a warehouse, and I am now a published author. This last probably being my 'new hobby'; to be sure there is no money in it.

I think these are just excuses, or at least the next 'stages' of a calendar year when 'something' is out of the way. Christmas, Easter, End of tax year, summer, budget, election... None of these events have offered immediate improvement in the world after their passing.

Similarly noticed. Which speaks to the end of contracting as a way of working, and a redundancy of this website in short. After all, there are precious few forums that discuss rubbing sticks together as a way of making fire...

Am now 'celebrating' two full years of no contracting work. Not only no work, but not even an interview. Maybe one call in that interim. A few emails that offer Data Centre Engineers or Product Managers; I am a Project Manager, or was. I went old school last week which is to say, I applied...

Believe it. I am not far behind at one and half years. I am currently a film extra... Otherwise, not even an interview...

For me, a year last October (2023). I win. But I do echo your sentiments sir.

A few weeks ago, a gentleman, a recruiter wrote an article for CUK suggesting that the way to beat the malaise, is to just 'change industry sector'... As if this had never been a consideration, I got in touch and politely suggested that it was those very same recruiters that wrote the job ads...

Sorry, not sure if we may or may not be talking at crossed purposes, but just in case, I was not at the time of being interviewed for the perm role while a contractor at Voda. The perm role and interview was a fresh instance. I am not sure that her asking the question was one of honesty. To be...

And what a colossal waste of time that is. Would not their time be better spent finding clients?? Unless it comes across, I detest those calls. Pointless.

Tried that once at the police state that is Vodafone. Perm role, I was getting on great with the line manager. Problem was there was also a Human Refuse lady in the room. And of course she had to pipe up about my contracting CV, and at the end asked, 'What guarantee can you give that when the...

Had my random monthly call from a random agent via LinkedIn Friday. This only to continue the theme of witless agents further to my previous story around 'bias'. "You seem a good fit for this role. If of interest, could you send your CV and some times today when I can give you a call."...

Interesting. Cheers. I must admit, I only look at Jobserve numbers for my particular search. If I am right about Jobserve being primarily an IT board, then even they must be hurting as, for my search 'project, programme', they now seem to be advertising roles to include Housing Project Workers...

Really? But really really? I feel this is just agent speak; seller optimism with zero empirical knowledge. "We will see movement after the election, budget, Easter break, Christmas holiday, this that and the random other." No. I have never seen obvious positive movement after any of these...

I honestly think all this promotes is to lie on the CV and get a friend to provide reference. The reality of the question and answer seems to provide no alternate solution.

Had a good chat with an agent recently that I thought repeating for a chuckle. My context is 'naff all for the last 12 months'. Agents' context is one of enduring hardship. 'You've sent your cv in for this role. To be honest, I thought I would give you a call because I didn't want to seem...
