    Unannounced HMRC visit

On Friday morning whilst on a work call (I work mostly from home as an IT consultant through my ltd company), a gentleman claiming to be from HMRC knocked on my door asking for me by name. My partner answered and took a message, he left his name and number. I tried calling the number a few...

Providing Freelance / One-off Services via website - Contract Requirements

There are some elements of it I do understand quite well but yes, some gaps in knowledge also - which is why I thought I'd try the forum. I'm trying to pre-empt the type of questions I might get from a customer. If I sell a service on my website for example: "Microsoft Power BI Audit"...

Providing Freelance / One-off Services via website - Contract Requirements

Hey all So I'm currently in a contract that's ending soon and luckily have a number of previous clients and potential new business looking for short-term (few days) work, once I'm available again. I'm a Business Intelligence developer and my usual gigs are either process reengineering...

IR35 - Substitution with freelancers/sub-contractors and working from home

Hey all At the moment I'm just a one-man-band who works via a ltd co. however I'm looking to grow my contracting company into more of a consultancy that would provide the service of multiple contractors/consultants. My plan is to work with clients who are happy to provide my company "an...

    Gains made using Directors Loan

What makes it worse is that I'm a CIMA qualified accountant too! I admit my question makes me sound a lot more 'dim' than I actually am, however I probably didn't word it as well as I should have. Your choice of words is slightly on the condescending side but I guess I'm fine with that -...

    Gains made using Directors Loan

It depends on the crypto. If it's one of these "meme coins" or "sh*t coins" as they are often referred to, then yes I can be difficult to get money back out as many are "rug pulls" or have very poor liquidity, and usually always end in disaster. Wouldn't be touching them!

    Gains made using Directors Loan

ah my bad! Oh I wouldn't dream of it haha, last thing I want to do is get on the wrong side of them. I guess it was more of a question of: given that I have a good chunk of retained earnings, and any additional dividend would attract the top income tax %, would it be most tax...

    Gains made using Directors Loan

Nice, never heard that term before :-D I guess it wouldn't necessarily have to be crypto, it could be investment in Stock or a portfolio (via eToro for example). Either way I'm just trying to get an idea of the whole company vs personal investment side of it and getting some additional...

    Gains made using Directors Loan

Both I guess, you mentioned "If you're looking at a company tax avoidance manoeuvre, there are better options." So just wondering what they may be?

I'm trying to go down the most tax efficient route. Can you share the other options please?

    Gains made using Directors Loan

Morning all *I'll be sending this question to my accountant later but I'm interested to hear your views and/or experience in this Let's say I take a directors loan of 15k and then invest that in crypto. If that crypto gains 5k in value and is realised/sold, what position would that leave me...
