Same here...HMRC reckon £3765 as my "LESS DIVIDEND TAX" figure.
They should not be trying to collect it this way anyway. My accountant says if you are doing SATR, it should be collected via SATR which most of us will be doing.
Its just completely a huge big mess....or maybe I'm about to have...
Yes you are reading it wrong.
Agency is involved now and is supporting of the situation and I have the support of my fellow team members, although they are keeping their heads down for now.
But I finally got them to detail what exactly they want to see at 7pm last night so have submitted to...
Here we go. Been contracting for a client for 2 years, 8 months and in my final week in daily scrum meetings we (other team members too) have been saying to the team lead that I should be doing the handover documentation before I leave.
Despite this, our team lead has overruled this and...
I'm not looking at any of these dodgy methods - read the post - this is what others I've come across are doing. In fact I think paying your taxes is the right thing to do.
Claire, thanks for you helpful info.
OK I've been a contractor for many years and operated a Ltd. company for much of that, then switched to umbrella to play it safe (ok I succumbed to the fear of IR35). I've enjoyed the easy life but as every contractor I've met is running various levels of, how shall I say, "tax reduction"...
My agency I've found out is taking just over 30%. I'm not surprised, they all try and get as much as possible. We all do. That's the game. Personally I'm not sure they do enough work but companies seem to continually use them and are happy to pay when they could hire us direct for less. I...
Getting references is a hit and miss affair, but like agent bloke said, I don't mind giving them the names - they generally get close enough anyway by googling and using linked-in from the companies on my CV.
Ive worked for companies where it's policy not to give a reference. F&C had one where...
Silverlight developer? Well if you've done a fair bit of WPF, WCF you are not far away really. Mind you, it's changing so rapidly that the things you leant a few months ago in version 3 (for example) are superceeded in Silverlight 4.
Too fast, too much, too old :-)
Yes that figures with what I'm seeing. Interviewing I found very few people had real WPF experience. Glad to say I was able to choose the UI technology so went for WPF partly to get the experience but also I'd have to think hard about creating a new project with "legacy" (lol) Windows forms...
Any Microsoft.Net Developers out there doing WPF, n-tier, etc?
What level are market rates at currently?
Luckily I'm in a 12 month'er but on the lowest daily rate in my 13 year contracting history. We recently hired another developer and agency was putting people in at £200 to £280 a day, so...

I was benched for 2 months from middle of June then spent the first couple of weeks taking a holiday. After about a month I decided it wasn't looking good so got my Job Seekers Claim in - got to say they were quite helpful and responsive.
Thankfully got a 12...

Yes there are lots of people applying for roles.
Frankly agencies are not the most effective method of getting work - some are good, most are not.
Being freelance since 1997, I'm looking at permy roles too as I'd like to...
Lets assume worst case scenario here.
My contract looks like getting terminated in March as new financial year beckons and indication is budgets are being slashed by AT LEAST 50%.
If I'm on the bench for the rest of 2009 can I claim any benefits? Would I need my umbrella company to "make me...
