Yes I have seen the old Knutsford gig's are coming up again.....got a little stuffed around with them last time. Was told that the role was/could be based in London. Seems that there are also some Barclays adds with the job being based in London, but as soon as you ring the agent they start...
Have had my hands on both Power7 p780 & p795, they are out there. The p795 is a nice bit of kit, just still got a few of the new and shiny bugs in it though.
yeah just got a call from one of the Indian agencies......offering £180 a day for AIX in Manchester.....considering that there is someone offering £500 a day in Bournemouth for AIX.....and most are offering between £350-450 they are quite below the market.
There is a limit on how long your considered a foreigner for the contractor tax things. You can tax deduct your rent for the first 2 years and flights to/from your home country for the first 5....or something like that. CXC or the like will sort you out with up to date info on that.

As a foreign non-resident contractor you...
Unix systems, AIX & Solaris mainly, a bit of HP-UX and Linux thrown in for good measure.
In the *nix space in Melb one of the bigger issues is probably that IBM are such a large shop and they are sending everything that they can to India and letting a lot of guys go, so the *nix part of the...

I've been back in Oz (Melbourne) since August and I would have been much better off staying in London....Damn those visa changes...anyway....for my line of skills the market here is crap, not to mention the general expectation to pull miracles out of, well...crap gear.
A...
Yeah both Melbourne and Sydney as just as or more expensive to live in than London and our wages/contract rates are much less. I took a 60% cut coming back here (damn those UK visa changes), it's not much fun really....and that was based on the getting low to what they had been London rates and...
Hummm.....$400 a day....goes to show how weak the Oz market is atm. Melbourne is expensive enough, Sydney is even worse but at least as a foreigner you'll be able to claim your rent etc as pre-tax, unfortunately for us Oz citizens that's not really an option.
