+1 Profits from taking carefully measured financial risks are earnings.

Bunch of fooking idiots. Why the fook should I only be allocated 227 shares? They should have stiffed the folk who jumped on the bandwagon who know fook all about it, and allocated on a quasi-first-come-first-served basis. Morons.

Agreed on the tracker part. With respect to dividends, the yield on RM if the share price bumps to 420 will be similar to the yield on Vodafone.

From the FT: Stagging. It’s a term barely heard since the dotcom boom. But it’s making something of a reappearance as banks prepare to close the books on the Royal Mail flotation. It means selling a share into a strong market immediately after an initial public offering to lock in an instant...

From the Lex in the FT: "It is the last posting date – and not even Christmas. UK ministers hope to unwrap a chunky present when a final price for Royal Mail shares is announced on Friday. Word late last week was that it will be set at the upper end of the anticipated 260p to 330p range...

If you applied direct I imagine you will get 100% or 0% of what you applied for. If you applied through a broker, and the broker put in one order for 100,000 shares and only got back 20,000 I think they are obliged to allocate the same % to everybody (so 20% of what you asked for) if they are...

I believe they are held with Equiniti. They administer lot's of employee share schemes and such. You'll be able to sell them whenever you like online, but Equiniti charge £25 for the privilidge (or they did when I held some BP shares in an employee account with them a while back). I think...

A stock increasing in price by x%, going back up to the offer price, is not neccessarily a good thing if the whole market has moved 1.5x% (not an exact number, but you should get my point about beta). Facebook is a bad example anyway, as just before issue the underwrites downgraded the revenue...

I know the high div yields make it a seemingly sound investment for SIPPs and so on, but I plan on going in and out over 3 months. There is next to no downside risk in the short term if you ignore union action and I am hoping the share price gets bouyed by the companies introduction to the FTSE...

Is this something for ordinary investors to cheer?

The problem will be that the ordinary investor doesn't actually understand the link between pay and performance. If a company loses £100mm it doesn't mean executive comp should be nothing, or even less than £5mm per exec, since the next best performing set of execs might have lost the company...

How much are you prepared to pay towards mortgage?

I live in central London and spend and in my last permie role was forking out just over 30% of my takehome. I know people who don't work in finance that pay out 40% - 50%. The justification is that you earlier in your career you expect your pay to jump more than the inflation on your expenses...

What could your accountant do better?

I wish for my accountant to use email more, as opposed to him trying to answer my email by phoning me to explain. I shouldn't answer the phone where I work and it's hard to schedule a time when I can call him for 20 minutes in his working hours. Plus if it's written down I find there to be less...

    Dissolved Company v New Company

    The situation is oddly amusing.
