    HMRC gives free money..!

..well not quite. A substantial credit has appeared on my bank account which I don't recognise, all the statement says is "SA". I called my bank and they said that's Self Assessment, and they've credited me money back into my account so speak to them. However upon looking at my self...

    Business Mobile tariffs

Whats the coverage like with T-mobile these days? I've spoken to a couple of people who say there are still a few dead spots about, and until you get one you don't know what its like in certain places (unless you happen to be with someone who is on T-mobile).. Pacman

    Driving to work

I have business use on my insurance, as technically I'm visiting the client's site in the guise of my LTD. For the extra few quid, its a no-brainer, you're always covered then.

Drivers who use a Mobile Phone whilst Driving

What really irritates me is people who can clearly afford a Bluetooth car kit but just don't bother. I'm talking about poncy BMW drivers in there £80,000 M5 or Aston drivers or Merc or any top spec car where no doubt Bluetooth is fitted as standard, but they continue to hold a phone to their...

    Buying a car

Evening all As the search facility won't let me search on "car" I thought I'd post... What is the forum's view of my Ltd buying a new car instead of me personally? Aside from the CO2 and BIK issues, would I be financially better off going through the Ltd? I could reclaim the VAT back, and I...

    Cheap server

Fleabay can bag you some bargains. I bought a Dell Poweredge 700 for the very same reason, 2x 36GB SCSI RAID1, 1GB RAM, 2.8ghz processor, DAT72 drive. It was 3 years old and I got it for £101.14! Need to put some extra RAM and disks in it, but the server has 2 SATA ports so I'll bang in a...

    Online PAYE forms

There are no forms to fill in. I pay quarterly, I just have HMRC as a "payee" in my Internet banking with my reference number as a reference, and pay them the required amount every quarter. Make sure you're not late with paying them!!

    On Call

Hi all, Tried to do a search for the phrase "On Call" but it doesn't like the word "on" so here goes.. I operate my contract outside of IR35. I'm a Windows 3rd line engineer brought it to do specific projects but occasionally help out with other "support" type stuff. I'm one of 2 contractors...

    www.fixitlocal.co.uk

Its not a percentage as such, there's a "modest monthly membership fee" which you pay to fixitlocal, then when you get the call, you charge the customer direct. I'm still at the early stages of thinking about it, there's not actually that much info on their website for potential businesses...

    www.fixitlocal.co.uk

I'm thinking of signing up with www.fixitlocal.co.uk to generate extra revenue streams. On paper it looks good, but I was wondering if anyone here has had any dealings with them, or are signed up with them. Your comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Client funded training

I'm class myself outside IR35, but my client has requested that I do a training course for a particular appliance they want me to manage. They're paying for it, but would that place me inside IR35? Thoughts?

Would doing VMWARE training be worth it?

I'm doing it the end of next month...my current gig runs out 18th November, and I think they're going to try and get me to be a permie, so I'm doing this training to help get my next gig...with the whole climate change thing going on, VMWare is only going to get bigger as companies want to...
