Asked to change umbrella mid contract and payment withholding

Yes well it does seem that way. Though the power balance is too far from centre. HMRC in their pursuit of contractor tax have pushed the majority onto inside contracts and therefore umbrella, making you an employee of the umbrellas but the construct doesn't seem to fit the norms in terms of...

Asked to change umbrella mid contract and payment withholding

Yes i think you're probably correct. I did phone ACAS who said they could help me recover the due pay but that the upper chain could enforce the switch. They then went on to say things that made me doubt they fully understood the dynamics and realities of umbrella workers.

    What's the new normal

I've often paid for QDOS reviews in the past when the responsibility lay with my firm as a contractor but now it lies with the end client I expected a different result

    What's the new normal

Having done some inside contacts for a while new contract opportunity has presented and the client wants to proceed. "Outside"is how the agency have pitched it, however the agent advised me that they/(the client) had decided to book the QDOS status review service and the client has duly...

    Adverse consequences of MVL

it depends on the wording. the wording for my insurer (original post) is: Neither you, any director or partner of the business or its subsidiary companies either personally or in any business capacity: has been subject of an individual voluntary arrangement with creditors, voluntary...

    allergic to HR

The accurate (and definitive) position should be provedid by hmrc in my view. I'm pretty sure when you complete self assessment the income for a paye roles is prefilled with the figures the employer provided to hmrc. Don't see a good reason why they can't provide similar for pension allowance...

    allergic to HR

Yes, came accross this once before but while it may give you some confidence (or defence if they're wrong) against the calculations it's still reliant on accurately entering every last contribtuon from the last few years. Given multiple providers, personal and co contributions and transfers...

    allergic to HR

speaking of maxing out your current and historic (carry forward) pension annual allowance - is there an easy and robust way of working out your remaining allocation/carry forward position? Thus far i've resorted to keying into spreadsheet calculators and having to sum contributions to multiple...

    allergic to HR

I mean deductions of all flavours/names ie income tax, employers and employees NI, even apprentice levy, especially the rates you pay when over the 50K of gross income. I didn't think there was anything but just rather desperately hoping i was badly informed :(

    allergic to HR

Ok so first things first I'm allergic to paying HR tax. This is a long-standing allergy I've been able to keep in check. But recently I'm nearing maxing out my pension contributions AA and carry forward and am facing the stark reality of a mere 55% retention on the entirely of my income. just...

Is this agency playing games - Should i down tools?

Ok so I've done more digging and the agency said they have an overarching agreement with the umbrella so no need for a specific contract. Obtained said contract from the umbrella and it's a contract which was evidently written for a ltd company contractor business. Some of the clauses make it...

Is this agency playing games - Should i down tools?

So I might as well divulge the agency which is Hays. I understand eek that you've used them previously so hope you may have useful insight. I spoke to my umbrella today and they said that Hays never send out a contract. She also said some agencies never even send any information. I'm...

Is this agency playing games - Should i down tools?

Ok so the agency has been very vague about things. They've sent me a one pager for me to sign which is basically just me acknowledging that I'm not directly engaged through them and a couple of opt out parts. They've also sent me a "assignment confirmation letter" which is basically just a...
